Tried to build a shop a couple years ago. You can read about that fiasco below.
Long story short, contractor screwed up pouring the slab. I had him tear it out and refund my deposit.

https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=350687

Finally making a second attempt. 34x26x12 with the gable end extended out to make a 12x26 porch that will be timber framed. Wood framed with metal siding.
Contractor started framing yesterday.

Thanks. Definitely is. Actually glad it worked out this way because we added the patio. I’m almost as excited about that as I am the shop. Ok, that’s an exaggeration but I am looking forward to having a tv out there so I can watch Braves Baseball from a float in the pool lol

Question for you guys, I’m having metal put on the ceiling. Should I have them go ahead and install it, and then I can run conduit for the lights and everything? Or should I have them leave it off, run the electrical through the trusses, and then install the metal myself?

And because nobody like a post without pictures, here’s a pic of what will be in the shop.

Definitely run the wiring first, then install the ceiling after all electrical work is roughed in. It is far easier to do this before any finish surfaces are installed. Don't be in a hurry to finish and then regret it later. No different than being dissatisfied with the results for the first concrete pad. A clean surface is easier to paint and keep clean afterwards.

Good luck with this build. Looks like a great start.

Agreed. Just wasn’t sure if the preferred way was to run conduit when covering the interior with metal.

Looking good! Any new pictures?

Yup framers we’re back today but ran out of material. Guess there was a miscommunication with the supplier on stud spacing. But I’m 99% sure I told them 16” centers. They also shorted me the 26’ 4x8 rough timber beam for the end of the porch.

Can’t post pictures for some reason. I’ll try again tomorrow.

A little more progress. Finished framing last week. Inspection was yesterday, “failed” but not because of anything major. Guy wanted load specs for the timber framed portion over the porch, the attic access hadn’t been framed yet (didn’t know it needed to be there for inspection), and there were a couple top plate joints that the guys missed putting studs under. So hopefully will get that taken care of pretty quick but it looks like it’s suppose to rain a good bit this week.

Exterior is pretty much done. Ran out of material for the fascia board. Two of the windows were damaged in delivery so they had already been replaced. This weekend I noticed one of the others that they’ve already installed is also messed up so they’re going to replace it for me when they finish the metal. Garage doors are the only other thing left.

Can anybody tell me how to embed pictures instead of attaching them. I used photobucket when I first got on this site but it doesn’t work for me anymore.

I think you have to attach the pictures and then embed them from the attachments. After the Photobucket debacle I think that is what I had to do when adding pictures.

Nice Camaro!

I remember your first nightmare thread! I was having drama with my slab and concreter when i was starting my garage build, i read your thread and made my problems seem insignificant! ha!

looking forward to the new build and seeing how you deck out your shop!

Rudi.
