I understand Mitsu and Fujitsu are the top dogs in homeowner grade mini-splits, however, I'm curious if any LG owners, on here, can attest to their quality?

I've read some horror stories about LG and was wondering if this comes down more to crappy installs rather than the quality of the units.

I did a quick search on here for this but didn't really find any info other than the Mitsu and Fujitsu being the best.

Thanks!

I recently installed a 6 zone LG unit for someone. It was all ceiling cassettes, it looked good quality, it had two remote control valves I mounted in the attic. After evacuating and charging it worked fine. Too early for me to know how it holds up. I Have also installed YMGI and Midea with great success. Many of the mini splits use the same compressors and other components inside.

Bought and installed 20 LG mini splits

18 are working fine, 2 have random electrical issues.

Installed flawlessly, beyond what 90% of people do.

Not sure what caused the issues, but repair has been such a nightmare than I had to end up buying 2 brand new units, which I bought from a different manufacturer. They were only 1 year old when they went down.

You can pretty much consider your warranty non-existent with LG

Never again will I purchase LG mini-splits

Here's what happened, it was their top of the line unit when I bought them, 1 year later, they have no fan motors available and I wait a month for one, never arrives. Finally have to order a fan motor myself from some online site. Doesn't fix the issue. LG says replace main board. I wait 4 weeks for a new main board, nothing, end up ordering one myself. Install, doesn't fix the issue.

Call back LG and guess what they said, replace the main board again! Meanwhile they never got the first one to me or the fan motor.

I'm going through an local supplier for my warranty, and I'm using a licensed HVAC tech to do the work. I'm paying this guy to go out multiple times. We're all playing phone tag with LG.

Meanwhile the poor tenants are using space heaters for heat and now a portable AC system while I get the new units installed

So I spent about $30k on LG mini-splits, 1 year later I have to purchase about $800 in parts and labor that didn't fix anything, about 8 hours of my own time, I have 2 really pissed off tenants without a real hvac system, and I just spent $3k on new units, and then soon to be another $1k to install those.

Do not buy LG

Tempting to throw the units off the roof and post a video

I bought and installed a 12kbtu Gree unit last year. Been working great, just ordered another for the bedroom. It was $760 shipped. They have gone up a little since last year, but still cheap. For the cost of a single "name brand" unit I can get two or more of these. I figure if it lasts 3 or 4 years without trouble, I got my money's worth and will replace it if I have to.

Wasn't too rough of an install either. Just took my time and got some tools. Clutched flaring tool, micron gauge, and rent a good 2 stage vacuum pump. Managed to get down to 160 microns and hold. This time around I will get some better hoses and also pressure test and purge with inert gas.
