Lift high enough for 6'4" guy to stand under

Hey guys. I know this thread has been posted before and I have read the threads but they are older and I am looking for some newer current information. I am 6'4" and I am looking for a home use lift that won't break the bank but will allow me to lift a car high enough to stand under without hunching over. I would say the the floor to pad distance at it's lowest setting needs to be about 76". Anybody have a current lift that goes this high or know of one that does? Thanks in advance.

I think most of the bendpak lifts do that. I would call them up and chat (especially about exactly where the locking positions are). They have the max rise on the hd7 and hd9x listed at 82" plus runway height of about 4" plus you have tires lifting your car up a bit too. If you only need to clear 76" it looks like you'd be fine.

How high is your ceiling? I get close to my ceiling on the next to last lock point and would kinda hate to me messing with disengaging the locks at the very highest point. I'd probably look for a lift where the next to last engagement point gave me the clearance I wanted.

I have an HD7 and you can definitely work under it without hitting your head, even at 6'4". Now whether you want to be able to walk under without hitting the runway would take getting the car pretty high up.

I am having work done to my garage to remove the attic space above so I should have at least 14 ft and probably a little more once its all done and the lift is going in the center of the garage. I saw some Bendpaks ones that look good but they are over $4k for a lift that is going to get used in a home use garage not commercially. I don't feel a bendpak is probably really necessary for a home use garage but if it comes to it that may be the way I have to go.

There are others. I was just using mine as a point of reference. What kind of vehicle and weight do you need it for? I got the HD7 because it was plenty for my use case. I see the HD7W for $3200 plus install.

I had also looked at some Greg Smith stuff when I was shopping around and think a friend just got one. They have an extra tall one (pro 8000 ext) for $2800 and the regular for $2500. Guess you'll have to figure out exactly how high the bottom of the vehicle will be off the ground. Plus you'll be wearing shows when working on the car ... so maybe you need to clear 6' 5" :)

I do think bendpak carries a bit of a premium, whether it's warranted or not I'm not sure. They just had one that fit my foot print perfectly and I didn't want a mechanically disengagement to the locks and like the ease of the pneumatic. Also figured if I ever had to sell, that resale should be higher. Anyway, good luck with the search. Most of these manufacturers publish pretty detailed diagrams with measurements.

heh. Yeh, my fault for assuming a 4 post. Don't know much about the 2 posts but Greg Smith seems to have some cheap ones in the $1,500 range but they only go to about 74". They do have these stackable truck adapters that go to 5-6" and there's a picture showing that gets you to 80" or so. That should do the trick. Also see they have some extenders but not sure what lifts they work with.

How much ground clearance do the vehicles you intend to lift have?

If you have the clearance you can get more lift using the truck adapters. I can send a lifted jeep out of comfortable reach but my miata only just high enough.

I think the measurement you want is the stroke of the lift.

For home use, I wish the stroke of mine was over 71" inches so I could send the arms up and out of the way when out of use and not have to worry about hitting my head.

I don't see anyone advertising the stroke of their lifts though.

The cheapest lifts are those designed for the Chinese domestic market and I don't think they have that many 6'4" mechanics so you may need to go with one designed here like a bendpak.

I am lifting a new mustang primarily and it has been lowered so not much clearance for truck adapters. In order to run any kind of adapters I would need to build some ramps to pull the car onto first to give it the clearance needed and then swing the arms under and lift the car. I may go this route if I can't find anything else. Sounds like a huge pain in the **** so I don't really want to go this route.

The Challenger CLFP9 has a rise height of 78.125 inches.

The Atlas OH-10x has a max lifting height of 7', but it requires adapters to get that height.

I sell garage equipment for a living and have for over 40 years.... You have to take a LOT out of a lift to retail it for $1500....

You can get just as hurt working in a home garage as a local dealership....Please move up a few bucks in price... you will be glad you did. The Challenger mentioned above is a nice lift.

Revolution RTP9 here, i'm 6'1 and mine gets a Trans AM high enough for me to walk under it with 10'6 ceilings..but just barely. If you work on trucks or are taller than that get 14ft ceilings and a clear floor style lift if you can swing it. Really like my revolution but I'm sure there are other good lifts out there.

I have a Tuxedo 11KC-DX which has a 68" stroke. The pads spin up so it is easy to take advantage of all the ground clearance a car has which is enough for me at 5'11". It wouldn't be good if I was 5" taller.

You are also going to have issues with things like a transmission jack to use under it.
