Lift Master 1280 opener hack

I am re-installing a lift master 1280. The original install was lifting a 10 foot high door. I am using it on an 8 foot high door. The door is installed and works fine.

The last time I did this was on a chain drive opener with micro switches tripped by clips on the chain. That experience mean much here.

My first problem was overall length. It had a 12 foot rail for an overall length of 13 feet. I only have 12 feet to play with. So I had to cut off 14 inches and re-drilled the 4 end of rail holes. I now have a 130inch rail. That should be enough for 96 inches of travel.

My questions are:

First, the limit switches. The adjustment part of the manual says 1 revolution equals 2 inches of adjustment. I need 2 feet. Looking at the diagram of the limit switch assembly in the repair parts page makes me think I cannot shorten the travel that much without opening up the switch assembly and moving the center contact wheel. Can anyone confirm that and tell me witch way and how far to move it?

Next, I now have to shorten the belt. They do not list a replacement part for the adaptor at end of the belt to the trolly assembly. It looks like it is just a crush attachment between the teeth on the belt. Is that right? Has anyone ever reused this adaptor? If I bust it how good is Master Lift at supplying replacement parts that they do list?

I have not yet opened up the drive box. From the drawing on the parts it looks like it is just the 4 screws holding on the sheet metal to get into it. Is there any hidden things I need to know about?

Last of all, does anybody have a good contact at Master Lift for these kind of questions? I have never had to get this deep into one of their openers before. How good is their customer service?

The door is installed with the tracks following a cathedral ceiling. So the motor is 14 feet in the air. I would like to get as much done as possible before lifting it up there.
