Lift master 8500 & a 3900

So I have 2 doors and am considering getting one 8500 and one 3900. Does this make sense? I am thinking I get the transmitter that can do both doors and 1 light and save 40 bucks. I am sure there are some guys out there with experience with both.

I thought the transmitter security is different between the 8500 and 3900.
