Lift Placement

Hello Folks,

I am going to install a Mohawk System 1 two post in my shop. What is a good distance to install the lift posts inside the door? Ceiling height is not an issue and will have door tract that conform to the roof. I want enough room for a large six-pack truck to pull in, close the garage door, and still have about 3' between back of the truck and the door.

I was thinking of 15' to the center line of the lift posts.

Thank you,

Tony

I was thinking 14, but 15 is safer.

EDIT: I just measured mine, it's at 14' and sometimes I'd like a couple more feet, maybe you should do 16'

LOL! Was just writing in 16'. But...Now that I think of it. That is from the edge of the slab. 8" door jamb... I better add one more foot. going to make it 17' from door to CL of lift columns.

Better to have more room behind than not enough.

Thanks for your help!

Completely agree !
I'd measure the truck and figure out the lift points .
How deep is the bay?

The best way to figure this out is to pull the truck in your shop.. cut a piece of 1 x 3 or pvc pipe to the length that your lift will raise the truck, and use the stick to simulate heights when the truck would be elevated.

Your lift instruction should have something similar to the following. This is what came with my Rotary.

Symmetrical Layout

Asymmetrical Layout

The is 45' deep. Width of my shop once built. I am currently designing placement of half bath and work sink plumbing, electric box input, extra stub-ins, lift placement, etc. Foundation is in work and concrete guy should be forming up in a couple of weeks.

Thank you again.
