Lift position

I am trying to figure out how far from the wall front and side to put the lift.
I want to put PEX in and I don't know what lift I will use other then it will be a 2 post. The shop is a 40 x 35 and will be in one end.

All I can say is don't put it closer than 2 feet to a side wall or 12 feet to a front wall. It really depends on door location and if it's a symmetrical or asymmetrical lift.

My last asymetric was 11' from the front wall and never had an issue, didn't ever move my toolbox from out front either to make extra room so my new hoist I feel very safe at 11' again. Biggest vehicle I lifted was my crew cab regular box Chev.
As for the side wall, I leave just enough room to roll my scaffold through, around 32".

I found a site that said with asymetric 9' was good from the front wall. in your opinion is that to close?

I like to see enough room to get in front of a vehicle with a cherry picker, if needed.. but don't forget that a vehicle can be backed into the hoist when this is the case.. hopefully.. there will be extra room on that end??

also leave a fair bit of room against the side wall if you are going to be pulling axles out

For a true asymmetric I believe that's the minimum. In my opinion it's too close. It leaves no good working room in front of the vehicle.

We have a 30'x30' with a 4 post extra long, extra wide, extra tall Bend Pak HD9XW lift. We went 42" from the side wall and we have 24" benches on that side wall also. Even in the closest corner between the bench and the corner post you can still walk through without any problems.
