Hello folks-I'm new to the group and looking for information to prevent a mistake. I have a 2 post lift going into a 35X60 shop. I would like the lift in the center 20 feet but to the left. I'm thinking of mounting the lift diagonally to facilitate entry and exit. My question is this: How far from the wall should the closest post be?

I just installed mine a couple weeks ago, and it is 5' from the wall. This gives me plenty of clearance to walk past, but then my building is 40 feet wide and laid out differently. At a minimum, make sure you can pull an axle shaft, as that is probably the operation that would require the most clearance. Most vehicles will be 8' wide or less, and an axle is half that. So at a bare minimum, you'd want the center of the lift to be 8' from the wall (you can do the math from there with your lift dimensions). I'd probably add a bit though, and go at least 10' (as the truck may not be centered in the lift, etc).

Before you bolt the towers down, stand them up and drive a car or truck between them to make sure you are happy with the position.
