Hello folks-I'm new to the group and looking for information to prevent a mistake. I have a 2 post lift going into a 35X60 shop. I would like the lift in the center 20 feet but to the left. I'm thinking of mounting the lift diagonally to facilitate entry and exit. My question is this: How far from the wall should the closest post be?

Welcome. You would be advised to update your location and it would be nice to know more about you as that way you may find many more willing to answer. You may also have more luck with an answer if you post the question in General Garage Discussion. Enjoy the GJ.

My lift is square to the shop, not diagonalled. I placed the centerline of the wall-side post 3' away from the wall. This allows a reasonable width to walk around the lift, and certainly pull an axle shaft out of a truck.

If the lift is mounted diagonally, I imagine you'd have to figure the full perimeter of the largest vehicle you would likely lift, and be able to walk around it.

I also placed my lift 15' into the shop. The lift manual said minimum 13', but this allows me to work on a vehicle with the doors open without the lift posts being in the way.
