My friend Roger of Roger's Rod & Custom is building a new shop for his business. And the new shop will have several lifts. At each lift the power drops in a conduit from the ceiling. Roger has been in his current shop for three years now and he has learned som lessons. So he had the electricians run more than power for the hydraulic pump. Each lift also has a 220 50 amp welder outlet and two duplex 110 20 amp outlets. The junction box on the top also has a master switch for the lift. Just in case. The other post will receive a compressed air drop. Air hoses and extension cords running across the shop floor are a thing of the past.

That's smart!
Too bad I already pulled 30 amp rated wire for the lift.
I always worry about over supplying an outlet for what it's "usually" used for. If somehow it arced through me, but not quite to 50 amps.......

Since it's run in conduit we can't see what's going on inside, but I imagine they pulled one circuit for the receptacles and another for the welder outlet. That's one of the advantages of conduit, although there are rules about the number of circuits and the sizing of the wire - depending on the number of current carrying conductors, the wire capacity is derated so larger wire is required.

Just started construction of my new Toy Room so this is perfect timing.

Really good idea. Thanks.
