Lifting the unit

I bought a Modine HD45 heater for my garage and am wondering what is the best way to lift it into place?

I'm installing it a couple of inches below the drywalled ceiling, which is about 8 foot high. If there wasn't any drywall, I would use a block and tackle setup, but I'm wondering if there's a better solution without having to punch holes in the drywall.

Make sure you have the ceiling clearance required by the manufacturer.

I have used a "hand cranked material lift" available to rent at Home Depot. It is portable on wheels and will fold up nicely to fit in a pickup or van. Search the rental section of HD. Rates in my area are $48 for 4 hours or $70 per day.

Drywall lift.

I have drywall but just poked a hole through it and used an access panel to cover the hole after lifting. Then I bolted a heavy duty eyebolt above the hole to the truss and used a hoist to lift it up. Worked out fine. Eyebolt is left in place for any future work that needs to be done.

Used a drywall lift from HD to mount my Big Maxx to my 12 foot ceiling. Was safe and easy.

I do like Thammel’s eye bolt idea. And that it is there for future repairs etc.

thanks for all your replies. I rented a drywall lift from a local big box store ($12) and it worked great. Now I just have to finish the venting, gas line and thermostat.

Drywall lift works well. You may want to bolt up a scrap piece of plywood to make a platform on the lift.

I used some u-bolts I has laying around to attach the plywood.

If you don’t have a cheap imported drywall lift, most rental outlets can help.
