I'm planing a move in the near future and need to move my old SO tool cabinet with a middle and top box. I've emptied them for the move but would like to clean them all over. Other than finding a helper, how would you go about safely lifting the top chest off the cabinet? It is almost 33" wide x 18" deep and if I remember I think it weighs about 140 pounds!
My garage it's in is finished ceiling so no lifting points there. I don't want to get hurt or even worse damage my chest. :headscrat

you got a attic entrance in ceiling. Lay a 8' 4x4 across the rafters and hang chain hoist in opening. Done this for numerous lifts.

If you have a lift a 4x4 across the lift almost all the way up then chain to the box, lift it off and roll the lower out of the way, let it down where you can back truck under it.

Ok,,,, would slide it with a plank or sheet in to a pickup truck. Setting on a carpet or blanket and pulling on smooth surface works.

Take the drawers out, easy to lift with one person in moderate physical condition.

ive moved my boxes several times by myself.
a 33" wide box i'm not able to reach around far enough both sides to get a good grip.

i remove the drawers, and slide the top/middle boxes off into the truck bed, and put roller cabs/large side boxes on my utility trailer.

i use heavy cardboard between the boxes to minimize any scratching when sliding the top off. depending on bed height you could always toss an old tire on the bed to take up space and provide a little cushion.

i unloaded a 400lb miller welder out of the back of the wifes saturn vue (by myself) using the tire method..
