Liftmaster 3280 vs Chamberlain Whisper.....

Wondering what the differences are between the LiftMaster 3280 (1/2 HP belt drive) and the Chamberlain 1/2 HP belt drive......I can get the Chamberlain easily and relatively inexpensively, but the Liftmaster is a little harder to come by.

I dont mind spending the extra $$$ on the LM if its worth it, so I was wondering what the exact differences were.

Only difference would be the LM has a one piece T-rail and the Chamberlain is a push together 3 piece rail. Chamberlain is DIY version of LM.

Do the multi piece rails hold up OK?

Not sure if one piece rail is worth the extra ~100.00 or not.

I have a Chamberlain belt drive. I don't know their reputation, but I'll never buy another one. It's less than 2 years old and it's making bad bearing noises. I'm familiar with the noises because the Chamberlain chain drive that I had chewed up it's bearings. I'm going to try either a jackshaft opener or maybe a screwdrive.

I have had a Chamberlain belt in my garage for 3 years no nothing wrong so far. I know TONS of people who have older Chamberlain openers and have never had problems.

I'm about to oder my 3rd controlelr board for my chamberlain in the past 3 years. THis time the issue is low remote range. The garage door will move if the remote is next to the opener.....

That is part of the reason to pay a little more for a professional to do it. If there are problems they take care of it. Sounds like the chain is too tight or the door is not working good and is tearing up the gears.

In regards to the control board it sounds like you are running interference with the frequency it is on. Doesn't matter how many boards you get they will all be the same. We sometimes run across this in certain areas of town.

The chain was adjusted properly, the belt is adjusted properly, according to the installation instructions. The door works fine and can be lifted easily with one hand with the opener disconnected. Are Chamberlain openers made in China?
