What is the purpose of the cable tension monitor? I have an issue with my door cable, when the door is raised and starts to move down the cable goes momentarily slack which trips the tension monitor. I put a screw in the wall to prevent the monitor from closing completely so the door will actually go down. Any danger in this, I don't see why the tension monitor is even part of the system.

The cable tension monitor is there to keep the opener from unwinding cable when the door isn't going down due to binding or interference or some other issue. This will cause the cable to come off the drum and make the door inoperable. At that point, the cables and springs would have to be uninstalled and reinstalled.

I do not recommend bypassing this. You will eventually run into a mess, most likely when it is most inconvenient.

You can fix it by raising the back end of the tracks slightly. This will keep tension on the cables. I just did this last week on a 10 ft high door. The tracks were dead level. I raised the back end about 3/4 of an inch and it works perfectly. With a shorter door, you may only need 1/2" or so.

You need to fix the door so the cables do not go slack at all. As already said, if the cables go slack to trip the sensor and you bypass the sensor, you are setting up an unsafe condition.

raising the back of my tracks helped in my case. Also try different heights for the "open" setting...if you put the door down a little lower it can make a difference too. I still can't ~quite~ get the door up as far as I wanted but it's livable.
