Liftmaster 3800 jackshaft wall control?

All of a sudden one of my LM 3800 wall controls went dark and will not work. I removed the wall control and touched the two wires and the garage door opens like normal. I took one of the other working wall controls and hooked it up and it does not light up or work. The car garage remotes work fine. I am wondering if i need to replace the logic board. I contacted liftmaster and they have not gotten back to me yet. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I have a very similar situation. I have 2-3800 version openers. One wall unit has the time/temp and the other does not. I talked with the phone help line people at Liftmaster. There should be 24 volt DC at the wall unit or at the opener. I have checked at times and seen 15 volts or 33 volts. Tried switching the wall units and never seemed to get any consistent results. Came back a week later and both units working. Week or so later the same door has the same issue. Need to take my good meter out there and verify voltage. I can also remove the wires off the back and complete the circuit to open the door. If you get any information for a fix = please report back.

Likely just a wall controller failure. I'd wait to see what Liftmaster says. They'll probably ship out a new one. I had one go out a few years back and they sent out a replacement with zero hassle.

Exact same thing here! Liftmaster was great and shipped a replacement one to for me. Pretty common issue actually (sadly)!

I have more questions than answers.
While the 8500 is a "improved version" of the 3800 the wall button is different along with a few other things. The fact people are giving advice that don't know the difference is scary. The 8500 and 8500w are different and people giving advice acting like they are the same is wrong as well.

Disconnect the wall button wires on both ends and check resistance.

my 3800s came with the newer myQ wall buttons, but i guess you are right there are different wall panels that can be used for this opener. In the ops case he is able to get it to operate by shorting the wires, so will need a new wall controller and liftmaster will sell/give the myQ one now for it.

Did you see the part where he tried a known good wall button and it still didn't work?

Contacted liftmaster today and after trouble shooting the 3800 over the phone, I reset the unit, jumped the red /white wire and the door works, replaced the wall unit again with one that works and still nothing. Tech decided new logic board would be needed. Ordered and will replace and let you guys know what happens. Thanks for all the feedback

The logic board is were the input from the wall button is received and processed. You only have a few items that are related. Glad you were able to talk to tech support.

Have you tried the wall button from the one you are having trouble with on the other opener?

I would still ohm the wires and try the wall button swap just to eliminate those items. No cost to do it either. You want to make sure those items are good before you try your new logic board. Don't forget to put a surge suppressor on both openers if you haven't already.

Hope everything works out.

On one of my doors the control board took a ****, and since I never use the remote anyway, I just installed a momentary doorbell switch. Worked fine for several years.

IN the meantime when I was installing several other doors on the shop addition, I had what I thought was a faulty control. Called them and they sent me a new one. In the meantime I figured out it was "user error" and not the control board. Put the extra one they sent me on that door.

BTW, if you have one of the older 3800 units, you should search here, or google, and educate yourself on the problem these control units can have with spontaneously opening the door!! It DOES happen!

I switched the doors in my shop addition so I could turn them completely off if we go out of town. The others I unplug.

Got the new Logic board installed today and everything works perfect. Once installed and plugged in, the wall control light went on. I bought it from Liftmaster for 84.00 shipped. Once installed you will have to reset the travel limits and car remotes. Install was very easy. I have the LM 3800 PLD. Thanks again.

I had the same issue with my 3800. I bought it in 2013, cant remember when it went out. I replaced the board.. still did weird stuff (cant recall what the problem was). They warrantied it and sent me a new 8500. (As a horder, i still have the 3800 to trip over, ya know for spare parts)
over the summer my wall control died. Found that it was a recall/warranty item. I had to wait two months to get a new one as they were all back ordered.
otherwise it has been a good opener. The limits have to be adjusted every so often, but otherwise good.

Interesting that the logic board fixed it. I had this happen about a month ago and did not want to install one of the replacement newer troublesome wall controls that can open the door at night on it's own.

After looking around I found a basic wall control that works - Liftmaster 41A5273-1 Multi-Function Control Panel. It lacks the motion control and does not have time/temp screen but it opens and closes the door (turns on or off lights as it should as part of open/close), and it will turn the lights on or off any time using the separate on/off light button.

So it does what I need it to do and was only $24 or so.
