I got 2 3800 Liftmaster openers installed on the house. When I looked over the paperwork (owners manual) it talked about some special remote openers that go into your car. They have a feature that when you reach up near the remote they back light so that you can find them. They also look different from the normal square liftmaster remotes. Well the 2 that he left with me are the normal square remotes. When asked about it, he said that some come with the new remotes and some do not. Does anyone know what the real story is? Only difference is the remotes and it comes with the wall button that has the temperature and time LED on the front. That reminds me Reactor does yours have this feature also or did it come with the white wall control?

It looks like they all come with the new style remotes now. I have two openers and the last one I got came with the new style. Watch out for the wall units though the tabs on the button that pops off broke on mine, they are really thin, LM sent me a new one so now I have an extra if I can figure out how to fix it. Other then that the new wall remotes are real cool. For the wireless remote I kept the little piece of plastic inside that allows the remote to flash whenever you touch it, seemed kinda useless to me so I rather save batterys.
The openers are the same other then the graphics being a different color, both of mine said elite on the box.

Anyone else have experience with the medium duty units? We're going to use two of these on one large high lift and noe standard size high lift.
Are you referring to the medium duty commercial jackshaft?
Yes, Medium Duty Commercial. We have 4 doors, 2 of which are being lifted basically straight up, one of which is 12x10 and heavy. The other 2 of the 4 are standard low ceiling application, so the 3800 will be sufficient.
I know the medium duty is good, just curious if anyone here has used them.

I got them about a week ago. When they were installed, they did not have the nice wall controls with temp/time/auto on light. They had a simple standard wall control. When I questioned the installer the next day, he said that he did not install the nice control because he was going to wait until the house was totally finished and then install them. Well, the house was almost totally finished and he came back in about 2 days and put the nice wall controls in. When I asked about the remote, he gave me the answer that some have them and some do not. My first thought was that he was going to leave me the standard controls and use the other ones somewhere else. Maybe I am wrong, but I do not fully trust his answer about the car remotes. Can I call Liftmaster and get a straight answer? Thanks Reactor

Only way to know for sure is by looking at the boxes that they came in or maybe from the manual. It will need to say Elite series. If it was installed a week ago it should of had the wall control and fancy remote. Unless he purchased these several months ago they would be the Elite series as they do not make the standard anymore. At a minimum it should of had the burled walnut remote and white motion detecting wall panel.
The medium duty should be fine just remember that LM does not warranty them in a residential application and they probably will not pass inspection for residential either so you might want to install them after the inspection. We have installed a few but we do not do alot of commercial work they are good openers, strong and noisy.

I had to wait a week for him to get them in. They have the motion/temp/time wall control. The remotes are the basic black 3 button square remote. The owners manual shows the nice remotes also. Not the ones that I received. I emailed the builder to work with the door installer to find out what is going on. Thanks for the feedback. Reactor

I don't think this is something you can go by, back in January when I bought my first one the box said Elite series, the opener that I bought a month ago said the same thing one the box. The build date on my most recent opener was 5/27/7 and it was one of the first that came with the new style remotes. My first opener came with the fake wood remote. I was initially suposed to get the old style but my ebay seller decided to ship it to someone else, I had to wait a month due to them being on backorder at the factory.
