Liftmaster 3800 wall switch - will a doorbell switch work?

I am in the middle of installing a liftmaster 3800 in my new shop. I purchased it from Ebay (next two will come from the board member dealer...). It came with the wall switch that can control the light, lock the door etc. Can I add a doorbell type switch in parallel with this one mounted across my shop to have a second point to open and close the door? Will that fry the board in the liftmaster?

I only ask because it seems like the commercial opener that is very similar to the 3800 seems to use a much simpler swich. I would expect they share many of the same guts.

I don't have the 3800, but with my liftmaster, doing what you desire causes the wall controller to reset, and the time goes back to 12:00. Instead, I opted to install a 3 button remote control on the wall by the garage doors, since I had an extra.

according to liftmaster, you need a wireless controller if you want a second wall-mounted button.

I do not think it will hurt anything. Definitely will not fry anything. A standard doorbell button should do the trick.

yes, it will work....actually you don't even need the switch...just short the 2 wires and it will open/close the door...this little trick is even mentioned in the troubleshooting guide at the back of the instructions as a means to determine if your wall control unit is good or bad

Thanks. If the fancy wall switch keeps getting reset by shorting across it (the other switch) I'll probably just get rid of it and add a second doorbell switch. I don't think I need my garage door opener to tell me the time and temperature anyhow...

Make sure you don't buy a lighted doorbell switch. The light bulb in it puts a partial short on the line all the time.
