They had the best price I could find. I bought three, essentially the third was free. My door installer said that was less than he could buy them for. Great openers, you'll love them!

I like mine. The best price I could find about 6 months ago was just under $300 shipped.

I am happy with mine, my only complaint is its really SLOW.

I guess that must be relative because the two I have open at around the same speed as did my old screw and belt drive units that I replaced.

I had to go back and check because that site sounded familiar. I bought a couple of keyless entries from them and had no issues. Got what I ordered and if I recall correctly I got them in a very timely manner.

You know you should ask this kind of question before you buy.

So non of you guys have had an issue with the opendooremote.com guys?

I used that e-bay co. to purchase the keyless opener, keychain opener and the alternate power source for my 3800... purchased the actual unit from the local install company as it made the install free. They wanted to charge $150 if I did not purchase from them so basically made the price diff a wash. I was already paying them to do a high lift conversion so I just got the opener from them as well.

As for the e-bay company, no problems, shipping was faster than promised and the order was correct as ordered... and cheap!

You did good on the price at 575 total for 2 - those 3800 operators retail for $375 each (fully loaded remotes battery backup keyless etc) ! $750 total before tax. Gotta love not paying sales tax online too.

3800s are ideal for highlift and follow the roof pitch track setups - but are not the best for standard track as they seem to throw cables off the drums a lot.

Highlift maximizes the head space above the door by allowing the door to move vertically higher before hitting the radius and curving horizontally.

I have 3800's on each of my 2 garage doors and absolutely love them. I have had them for over a year and have not had any problems at all with them. You made a good choice and will not be disappointed. Nice price also.

I've never heard of such an issue. If this is your experience on ones you've installed then something was done wrong.

I come a from a commercial door background and don't do much residential work but a side mounted operator on standard lift track does have problems throwing cables off the drum. I imagine the 3800 has a "soft start" to help prevent it. The installer would probaly over tension the springs to help also.

Open the door look at drums. Is the cable wrapped around it tight or is the last wrap loose on the drum? Stand outside, start the door down, you can probably see the cable unspool from the drum a bit. The jerk from the initial movement is what throws the cable. It's because on standard height track all the weight of the door is resting on the horizontal track and not on the bottom bracket to keep the cable tight.

The 3800 must be magic... after 6 years of listening to Wayne Dalton desk jockies tell me the reason their POS Idrive wouldnt work properly- was the fact my door was out of balance.

After installing the 3800 a few months ago,the door works GREAT!! ...........EVERYTIME!!!

Like I say..the 3800 MUST be magic!

Do the installation yourself? How difficult & how long to install one?

Yes, I did my own install. Took a couple of hours. Overall, as easy as any opener I have ever installed. (maybe easier)
Heres a pic.. nice and clean look...

I'm getting ready to start my garage and get everything on order. Going with the 3800. What accessories should I get? It's a two-door detached.
Back up power supply? What about the lights? I'll definitely do an exterior wireless panel. Anything else I should consider?

Don't really need the back-up power supply. Just use the manual release and lift the door by hand. Unless you just want convenience of having the back-up. Lights are just if you need additional, your choice.

Get the surge protector from Chamberlain (12-15 bucks). Not only does the opener plug into it, some of the control wires do as well.
