After having a broken opener on our garage for 3 years I just installed a new opener. Went with a Liftmaster 8355-267. Went with it because I wanted a 1/2Hp belt drive opener and the 8355-267 came with 2 car remotes, a keyless entry and had the MyQ technology that uses their app in the smart phones. Got the opener installed and love the opener, super smooth and quite.

Now for the issues I have. First, the opener will not work with the Homelink remotes built into our car (our car is older than 2006) and requires an additional repeater (G855LM)..... WTH? Has anyone found a way around this? Why would they require this repeater? Or is purchasing the repeater the only way I am going to be able to use the Homelink in our car. If so where is the cheapest place you guys have found to purchase the repeater?

Secondly, I really wanted to be able to use the Smartphone app, mainly so I can check if the door was left open while I am gone. Unfortunately, I have come to realize that the marketing is slightly misleading. While the opener can be used with the MyQ, it requires the addition of a gateway (821LM) which costs $99. Well that's not going to happen... I just spent $200 on the opener itself, not going to spend another $100 to get a function they advertised it was equipped with to work. Has anyone found a way to make the MyQ work without buying the gateway? The only solution I have found is to buy the "W" version of the 8355, the 8355W. Unfortunately, I can't find anywhere that doesn't want an arm and a leg for one. Anyone know of a place to get a good deal on a 8355W?

I apologize for the long post, I am just rather frustrated with the outcome of this install.

The Homelink in your car will not work, you need the repeater. Been there done that.
Security tech in the MyQ make the older Homelink not compatible.

You need the gateway for the MyQ access via a smartphone. Been down that road too.
