My garage door is 10' wide 8' tall, and is insulated. The tracks folow the pitch of the vaulted ceiling in my shop. When I purchased the door I explained to the door company that My future plans were to install a 8500 operator. I installed blocking in the wall on the left side of the opening so the operator could be secured to something substantial. I also installed a receptacle near the future operator because I hate the look of exposed cords. My question is: will the 8500 operator have a problem lifting the door with the track system I have? My plan is to purchase the operator and install it myself so I do not want to contact the door company. I have included some pictures that might help visualized the area. (I seem to only be able to upload one picture with each post. I will post another picture shortly)
Thanks in advance.

you may have to remove some tension on the two springs. You actually pull the door down when you close it until the weight of the door takes over and then you hold it back as it nears the floor. The 8500 will only 'let' the door fall under its own weight until the springs start to carry weight.

I have a 16 x 8 insulated door with tracks that follow the pitch of the ceiling, just like yours. I have a liftmaster 3800 (the predecessor to the 8500).

It works like a charm, I wouldn't change it for anything.

The only thing I see is that The torsion spring looks close to the ceiling. You may have to cut slightly in the ceiling drywall to clear the opener. I had to do it. Another way to do it is to lower the opener and link it to the torsion shaft with a chain and sprockets, liftmaster has a kit.p just for this.

Check the Liftmaster 8500 web site for an on-line installation guide to see how much clearance you need on top. I have the same concern as Mr. DanRoy has.

Good luck!

Thank you to everyone for your response. I measured the clearances for the operator and according to the Liftmaster web site I should have more than enough room to mount it. I may have to tweak the spring tension but that should not be an issue. I plan to order the operators and will report back after they are installed. (I have a similar door on the unheated side of my building)
Thanks again!
