Hi

I was wondering if someone could help me find out the exact width of this garage opener, from the edge of one shaft to the other. (without the collar).

Hung 2 today, didn't think to measure. If space is an issue, the 1" torsion shaft can slide in the opener a few inches. In some instances you can mount the opener to the shaft and slide it over far enough to mount the bracket to the same back jambing as the tracks.

Thanks. My issue is I'm not sure if I can wiggle it in, even before sliding the torsion bar inside the shaft or adjusting the collar.

Maybe I need to cut the torsion bar a bit.

The pics show the room I have. I'm afraid to order one online and having to return it.

yea that's pretty tight, you could slide the collar on and then the opener. possibly cut the other protruding piece off that you wont be using. not sure how to word it but the opener is able to mount to either side so it has "shafts" coming out both sides, just trim the other side off. save some room then slide the opener over. looks like you have enough material to lag the bracket into.

Says the torsion shaft needs to protrude a minimum of 1" from the bearing plate and that you need a minimum of 8" from the end of the torsion shaft and the wall. This means not less than 9" from wall to the torsion shaft bearing plate. Looks like you are 1/4" shy so the suggestion to cut the unused side of the opener is probably spot on.

Wanted to share the final update:

I went with a professional installer instead of trying myself. It was a good call because in order to fit it in place he had to release the torsion spring, slide the torsion bar in and out again, and stretch the spring back in place. I wouldn't have attempted that myself.

On top of that he cut the unused side of the shaft.

Once that was out of the way, the rest was uneventful.
