I have multiple Liftmaster 8500 units installed in my garage, and one of them has been giving me a problem with the light. When I open the door to the garage, I notice that the light is on, and if I hold the remote wall button in, the light will go off, but it will come back on in half an hour. Nothing in the garage should trigger the light to come on, so I think it is something in the unit itself that has gone bad. When I open the door to the garage, none of the other door lights will come on unless I step into the garage and trigger the sensors. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Did you install the proper bulbs for garage door openers? I know it sounds "hokey" but these approved bulbs (by many manufacturers) MAY fix your problem.……… Home Cheapo has these bulbs in the garage door opener section.

The light is supplied with the Liftmaster bundle, and it does not have bulbs. It has a bank of LEDs under the lens.
Thanks for the suggestion about the occupancy sensor, which is mounted on the door control. I have another, so that will be the first item that I will change to see if the problem goes away.

I had this exact problem with phantom light activations. Through various means I was able to isolate the problem to a single control board in one of the door openers. (I swapped the remote switches and remote lights to confirm they were not triggering the issue.)

After replacing the board in the door opener, I still had the problem. I recall that I ended up taking the unit apart a bit more and cleaning/vacuuming it out really well. Since then the problem has not come back. I assumed cobwebs or some other dirt was shorting out sensors or the board in an odd way.

Liftmaster had a problem with the wall mount switch on the 8500’s. I have five 8500‘s and they‘ve sent me two switches. You can manually turn the over head lights off/on from the wall mounted switch If needed. I’m guessing but this may have something to do with the problem you’re having. The problem I had was the doors would open randomly.

I had this problem, also. This is different and why I isolated the remote switches in the testing.
