Good morning GJ!
Hoping some of you can offer some assistance. I attempted to install my new Liftmaster 8500 jso however I ran into a snag while attempting to mount the opener. In the manual under the 1. Installation sentence 3 says to vertically align the opener. However it appears that the mounting bracket to the wall does not extend far enough for me to mount the opener completely vertical. I.e. I would have 4 inches between the wall and the opener at the top of the unit, and 3.25 inchest between the unit and the wall at the bottom of the opener.

Is the solution here to get some metal plate from HD and whip up some "extended" brackets? It looks like the original oe supplied brackets are about 2 inches too short.

Any assistance or ideas are appreciated.

I just angled my opener back to the wall and attached the bracket. It works fine if unit is not plumb.

I think i used a scrap of 2x4 screwed to the wallIf I remember the bracket had little slots to adjust and fine tune - maybe not. Been a few years. I might have used another shim- either way don't let it get you too hung up

The instructions indicating to vertically align the unit means that the unit should be perpendicular to the horizontal torsion shaft.

I like the 8500 and it is easy to mount. Mine also angles slightly towards the wall at the bottom, BUT, it sure is slow.
