We have a new detached garage under construction at our new house and am in the market for two new garage door openers. Was thinking about the 8500 but since the 8500w is out wondered if we should go that route?

About to order 2 Amarr Classica doors (10 ft. high x 8 ft. wide) and really don't want to have to get an extension kit for a garage door opener which is why I'm looking at the 8500 series. Would like the wifi capabilities and saw a You Tube video where someone installed a 8500w and a 8500 and left the 8500 piggyback wifi from the newer model to cut down on cost.

Any thoughts about doing that? Where will we find the best pricing? Both doors and opener will be professionally installed.

If you are having them professionally installed then buy them there and get a package deal. Talk to the pros. Sometimes what you see done on you tube is not done in the professional world. If they are going to warranty it, they will install them the best they know how.

I have more questions than answers.
Plenty of threads on here about the 8500, you might be interested in. The 8500w is new and no feed back on it yet.

If you decide to go with one of the version then order a track with a high lift.

If part of the decision is a wifi enabled opener or one without wifi, I say get the wifi. We have one with the wifi in our new construction home, its a Liftmaster, I don't know the model, but I love it.

I installed the app on my phone and now I can check the status of my garage door at any time, open it, close it, from my phone. It also shows a history, so I can see when its been opened/closed. Its super handy.

My wife constantly leaves the garage door open, basically whenever she leaves the house, she forgets. When she gets home, she forgets. If she is the last one in, in the evening, she forgets. My two college age daughters are the same way.

Drives me crazy because our garage is very close to the street, we tend to use it as the main entry way, and all of my motorcycles, tools, everything, are in full view when that door is open.

Being able to check if its open or closed at any time is helping with my sanity.

If wifi or not is not what you're asking, nevermind, Lol.

I have the 8500 and the 8500w. I piggy back the 8500 off the 8500w and have had no issues with it. If u buy the 8500 be aware the light kit is not led like the 8500w. Not really a big deal but. Also the wall controller is different between the two. If that thing matters to you.

I installed two Chamberlain belt drive openers two years ago. Mine have a configurable auto-close setting...I think it's 1,5 or 10 minutes.
