I have two new controller panels sitting on my workbench waiting to be placed into service, the 'chirp' from one of mine in-service but not working reliably is soon going the way of the dodo bird.

I'm in my second year of service from the installation, lots of posts online about the early 8500 controllers having problems. Supposedly a re-design has fixed the problem.

There is a lot of info if you search the site.

I have had mine for two years with no problem except having to adjust the door sensors a few times. It's a little slow opening and closing the door but I can live with that.

I have 2 and they're about a year old. One gets used a lot more than the other but they are very quiet compared to the standard type and have not had issues yet.

I have one on a 16ft x 10ft door. Works great - but it needed to be set correctly (springs-balance). It is slower than the overhead chain style in our attached garage - but that seems to be part of the engineering. It doesn't get opened more than 4 times a day on average. But we are still moving things into the new shop. It works at -35C with strong winds and works at +15C with strong winds - we haven't had summer heat waves to test it in yet.

have 3 garage door's ...anyone use this type "jackshaft" opener
any issue's with them ?

I have two, like them,
Just a note when installing your doors, make sure there is no binding and the door moves up and down freely. I found when balancing the door with the spring is to make it so the door is slightly on the heavy side. Remember that the doors in this case "HANG" on the two cables and don't have a rod and chain to push the door down like your typical garage door opener.

Door alignment and everything moving freely is more important with this type of opener.

Also note that I have a 9foot ceiling in my garage so the door hangs from the ceiling when open and you need to have the door rails angled so the door wants to role closed on it's own. With higher ceilings most have more room to make that angle larger. AGAIN, the door cables need to stay TIGHT at all times. TRUST ME ! lol

I have two of them, one for a single 8' door and one for a 16' door. Both units developed a problem with the wall mounted switches "beeping" intermittently. It was driving me crazy because I'd hear the beeping and couldn't figure out where it was coming from. By the time I got to the garage, it would stop. I didn't even know that the wall switches could beep, but trust me, they can. Anyway, I also noticed that the remote lights seemed to have a mind of their own. Sometimes they were work perfectly, other times they wouldn't come on at all, or sometimes they would turn on by themselves for no reason. I called up Liftmaster and they told me that they had an issue with a batch of wall switches. I popped them off the wall and they confirmed that both of mine were part of the bad batch, so they sent me two new ones free of charge. That was nearly a year ago and I haven't had a problem since.

A batch? That's total BS, this has been going on since the 8500 was released! And still we don't know if these controllers have been fixed. No TSB, no recall, no nothing from LiftMaster.

Well, that's what they told me. They asked me to look at the number on the back of the wall switch. I gave them that number and they told me that both of mine (they were part of a 2-pack, purchased together in one big box) fell into the range of this "bad batch". The replacements they gave me have worked perfectly, no issues at all. In fairness, the original wall switches still worked fine. The only thing that alerted me to a problem in the first place was the weird behavior of the remote lights and the beeping coming from the wall switches.

I actually called about two weeks ago requesting new wall units. Mine were "bad". I have replaced them in the past via warranty I believe twice. They normally last about 2 years and then the doors default OPEN.

This go around so far nothing has happened but I am soon to be running out of the warranty and my luck i'd be out when the current ones decide to die. So having an extra set to me was worth the "bad" diagnostic ...etc.

I was told on the phone that the new ones are not affected like the old ones were. She said January 17' they should have been fixed. I looked at the back of my unit and one was from 15' and the other was from 16'.

If and when these go, I will report back on what happens with the new ones. The new ones are both label May 17'.

Other than the wall controller failures I've had zero issues. The remote/internet app works great as well.

I have two still in the box for the last six months. Just haven't had the time or made the time to install them.

Nigel,

Last summer I installed an 8500 for a buddy of mine. Earlier this week he was having issues with the garage door opening by itself. I went over to his house to diagnose the problem and sure enough a faulty wall controller.
The manufactures date April 2017.

With that said, nothing has been fixed in my opinion.

Asking for a friend. He has an 8500 and his eyes stopped working properly.

I checked and double checked the wiring. I also unplugged the opener itself trying to reset that. The orange light is on constant. I can only get the green light to flicker when removing and then replacing the power. Even with the eyes looking at each other from a foot apart, I cannot get the green to remain constant. I tried another green eye from the other opener, same problem. I imagine it is in the opener itself, correct?
Because they eyes aren't working, he has to hold the button to lower the door. I'm not aware of any work around, but we're open to suggestions. Next step is calling Liftmaster, but I wanted to prepare myself with some information before they tried to give me a line of BS.

Check the wiring to the eyes. You can even disconnect the old wiring and use a short jumper from the opener and test.

I cut the wires mere inches from the sensor and then plugged the shortened version into the opener - and same result. I then cut the working sensor off of the other door and wired it directly to the opener, still nothing.

I'll call them.
