Hi everyone - had a question about these two openers. Is the only difference between the two the battery backup? I have a whole house backup generator with a transfer switch, so I really don't need a battery backup, but does the 8550w offer anything else that the 8557w doesn't? Thanks!

I would consider the wall mount 8500, we have them on a 10'x16 and two 8'x16' and are very happy with them. They are quiet and have a rail lock. Plus for an extra $52, you can access them via phone, web, etc.

8550 is a D.C. With battery back up belt drive. The 8557 is a 3/4 hp AC belt drive. According to their website. They are both good units. D.C. Advantage is a soft start and stop. If your door is balanced correctly you don't need a 3/4 motor. Belt drive is very quiet. Just thinking out loud..
