We just moved into a home with a detached 2 car garage. it has a Liftmaster 1/2 hp opener.
I am having problems programming remotes to the opener. The one on the wall directly wired to the opener works fine, but using the learn button on the opener doesnt allow me to program any remotes.
I have cleared all remotes by pushing the learn button until the light goes out, but now cant program any.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

I have a 9 of these openers and haven't ever had an issue with programming them, but I'd make sure the remote you're trying to program are correct Mhz as they make a couple different models.

I'm trying to program the remotes that were previously programmed (that were working fine) and our HomeLink transmitters in our cars. But for some reason, having difficulty.

Make sure you program your home link to the remote and not the door opener itself, like what is common with craftsman door openers. That's how I got things to finally work on my new Nissan Maxima and LM3800.

Once you've cleared the receiver...just touch the smart button light will come on, then press and hold transmitter button..you'll hear a click, light should go off! if that doesn't happen check the button on the wall, if it's a wall console make sure receiver is not turned off!! hope this helps..

I've tried this. Its just not 'learning' any remote.
Guess I'm going to have to replace the whole unit.

I have the same openers, I use wired wall mount buttons, exterior wireless keypads, original 3 buttons remotes, and also 3 vehicles with integrated remotes. The process is a stated above for the wireless keypad and the 3 button remote that clips to the sun visor. Touch the learn button on the opener then press and hold the button you want to use on the door FOB. Our Infiniti cars also worked the same way however for the Shelby I had to call the my link phone number for a intricate process that linked the opener to the car.
Liftmasters number: 1-800-528-5880 call them for more help.

there's another thread on here with someone having problems with their remotes not working and it appears to be related to interference caused by LED light power modules. It's a longshot, but maybe try unscrewing any nearby CFL or LED lighting and try the remote programming again?

Don't get mad - but does your wall mounted opener have a "lock" switch? That was why my opener wouldn't work with any remote...

I've since taught my daughter to not press these buttons as Papa gets stuck outside the garage in the cold...

That could be frustrating. But, yes, there is a lock button and I have tried that setting that as well.

I am using a CFL bulb in the opener, maybe I will switch that out and try again. Worth a shot.
Thanks

Hey odie, Have you had any electrical storms lately?(power outage) A spike when the power comes back on can blow the radio control circuit on the Logic Board, opener will still work fine from wall button. Have seen this many times!!:dunno:

I know some of these seem like dumb questions..but that's how I diagnose things..Start with the obvious first! Things like batteries Etc. If you were closer problem would be solved already..Good luck man!

Just realized this was an old thread . . .

I also had a problem programming my LiftMaster remotes -- not sure if it's related to your Homelink problem. I had trouble getting the old remotes to "unlearn" their previous codes when working with multiple openers. I added a remote light switch and tried to reprogram one of the buttons on the remote to the new switch, but the remote kept using the same code as the old opener. I ended up having to reprogram all the openers, rather than the new light switch. If you have two openers, you might try programming the good opener with one remote, then use a new code for the other remote, then start with the other opener and use the same procedure. It might work, might not, but it's probably worth 10 minutes to try.

I finally bought a "universal" remote and got it programmed. Then I used the new remote to program the homelink in the cars.
Not really sure what happened to the original remotes that were working fine before?

Lol, I know it was a dumb question, but I get service calls because of dead batteries more than you'd like to think.

I didn't read every response, but if you have multi-button remotes, you could try programming a different button. Sometimes the button wears out, but the others are practically new underneath.
