Liftmaster Jackshaft Opener

My garage guy is recommending using a liftmaster jackshaft opener on the side at the coil spring instead of an overhead opener. I have about 11 ½ fee of clearance and would like to install a lift one day. I don’t know anything about these types of openers and wanted to post to the forum and get some feedback.

They are great. Nice and quite and does not take up room above the middle of the garage like a normal opener. I got one so I could install my lift. My ceiling is only 9' so I needed the clearance.

I've been very pleased with my LM3800. If you are planning on a lift and if it's not too late get the door travel as close to the ceiling as possible.

That is my game plan. The garage was just sheetrocked....however the outlet is in the center so we'll need to run another. This is exactly what I am expecting in my garage. What is your ceiling height?

I have three of them in the new garage and couldn't be happier. Nothing in the way of a lift, deadbolt lock on the track, remote lights and super quiet.

Do it.. they are nice and quiet, and just such a better design than the normal chain type. I was just over my brothers house, and he opened his door with a regular cheapy chain drive kind, and it sounded like a tractor towing a pile of chains up a stone driveway.. made me appreciate how quiet ours are

They are great. I replaced a chain drive with one when I was looking for more clearance for a lift.

A bit fiddly to install, though. If you are going to install it yourself, you need to make sure the garage door operates smoothly. You also might find yourself adjusting it a few times to get it to work properly. Do a search and and you'll find several threads on it.

We have two doors with the LM3800's, our ceiling height is 12'9" and the doors leaves about 3" of clearance.

I really like the 3 that I have. Use a high lift track on your door to get it up close to the ceiling.

Numerous thrads on here discussing the LM3800, just do a search and you will learn all you want. I have one and am also very happy with it.

Go for it! I put up with a POS wayne dalton idrive for 7 years. WD's desk jockies kept telling me my door was out of balance. Finally changed to the 3800 about 3 weeks ago... WORKS GREAT!!!..

(amazingly, my out of balance door fixed itself?!??)

Just finished installing mine yesterday! What an unbelievable difference between this opener and the old chain drive I had! I have a 16' x 8' Wayne Dalton 8500 door and it moves the door with little effort.The silence is deafening!!! I would give this product 5 stars!!!!!

Everyone loves their lm3800. I have one on the tall bay with a high track, and wish I had sprung for another on the short bay, instead of a chain drive.

Another Liftmaster 3800 fan here! I just added a 2nd 4-post lift, and had to remove the originally installed ceiling mount stuff, relocate the 110V outlet, and order a 3800 unit. I found one on Ebay for $309. Installed it myself. I now have two of them. Very nice openers.

I have 2 myself and they're great. but like mentioned earlier the doors have installed and working 100%. I had buddy do mine while I was finish some other things....I wont say he botched the job, but it definitely wasnt up to my standards and I had to reinstall th etracks to get the 3800 on that door working properly.

I installed 2 Lm's 5 years ago when I replaced my old garage doors. These are great units, no problems, quiet, and no vibration like the original chain models. I'd use this LM again without giving it a second thought. You might want to look online to see what price you can find if you purchased yourself and did a self-install and compare against your installer's price. Install was really simple.
I also purchased a light unit that I plugged into the original receptacle for the old door opener. This was nice because I always had enough lite to get car into garage without needing to get out and turn overhead lights on.
You do need to add a receptacle near the corner of the ceiling and wall just to the left or right of the door frame for this unit - can use same circuit as original receptacle.

Just ordered 2 of these for my new garage. Got the outside keypads, a key fob remote for the wife, and 2 surge protectors all shipped to my door for $850 CDN. $45 of that was shipping, 5% was tax. Way less than the local overhead door places wanted. Got them from overheaddoorparts.ca

Service was great, price was the best I found. The local place wanted $485 a piece plus the key fob and surge protectors.

Can't wait to get my doors now. . .

Just curious if there is any problems synching the "Homelink" system that is in most of the newer cars with this opener or is it just like any of the others?

I am about to install a LM 3800 in my garage but I just have 1 concern. Does anyone have any experience with this in cold weather climate and no heat in the garage? Does the touch pannel work properly? The only reason I ask is I had a fancy digital light timmer hooked up to the outdoor garage light switch in the garage (right where the garage door pannel would go) and one winter it froze up and quit working. Not a problem with the light switch, but would be a big problem if the door would stop working.

The LCD pretty much freezes up solid (no longer displays anything) once you hit about -20c - but so far, I haven't seen any other issues... Even the Motion sensor seems to work...

So even with the LCD frozed up and lets say the motion sensor quits too... There is still a button to open the door and turn on the lights manually w/o the screen working? Thats all I really need is an on/off button, nothing fancy. How about the remote light? still works fine in the cold?

Buttons should all still work fine in a deep freeze, you do still have manual control over lights. Keypads do run on a 9v battery, those don't like the -30 range...

Kkenney - zaps are lovely pieces of kit they're still my favorites.
