Liftmaster opener not working

Any thoughts here would be appreciated.

I have a liftmaster opener (chain drive) on a standard residential garage door. It's worked great for a year or so, but stopped working today.

It will not close the door; it shuts off immediately and blinks the light, as if there's a jam or something is blocking the eye.

If I disconnect the door from the opener I can manually close the door, and it moves easily. It's not jammed. I also tried to close the door while applying a bit of pressure (both ways) to try and help the opener, with no success.

After I close the door manually, with the door still disconnected, the opener runs down the track normally and reconnects with the closed door. It's not the eye.

The door will open normally, using the opener.

So, any thoughts? I have to admit that I'm somewhat stumped. But it's my first electric door, and I've never had to troubleshoot one before.

Check the sensor eyes. I discovered even a spider web will cause the door not to open.

The sensor alignment is another thing. If they get bumped they go bonkers.
You will have to get the book out for that as I do not remember the procedure.

I have more questions than answers.
You say it's not the eye, based on it going down without the opener connected. But have you checked the eye's? ???

Which model of Liftmaster. If you can't find that what color is the learn button? ?

Are the lights on for both eyes? ? One should be green the other yellow. Both eyes should NOT go off at any time.

Down force is important as is having the receiving eye with no direct sunlight interference.

After checking the eye's and nothing is found More information is needed .

The opener works just fine when the door is not attached. I'm really not sure how it can be an eye problem.

I say it's not the eye based on the opener working correctly when the door is not attached. The little sled that carries the door runs up and down with no problem, but when the little sled is attached to the door, it won't close.

Are the eye brackets clipped to the track or mounted to the wall? Track loose? Sometimes the little vibrations will set em off, vibrate the wing nut loose etc. Could also be the down force needs reset.

Also, lube the springs. If they aren't stretched alittle and lubed, they will bind up. I've been on calls where the door locks up about a foot off the ground, lube the springs and voila.
