The shed where I keep my motorcycle (Kawasaki Versys) has carriage-style doors. I'm planning to enlarge them and add an opener. Looking at the instructions for Liftmaster openers (e.g. model 1245), in the section on adjusting the travel limits, there seems to be a transition at 5 feet (1.5 m) of travel. Less than that, increase the force, more than that, adjust the travel limit. My new doors will still be relatively small, and the travel required of the opener may be less than 5 feet.
So, my question, is that "5 feet" just a number they picked to represent "some movement", or does it relate to a fixed value in the opener mechanism? For example, maybe the down travel limit doesn't come into play until the trolley has traveled at least 5 feet. If that were the case, and I need less than 5 feet of travel, a liftmaster may not work well for me.
Looking at the picture of the travel limit mechanism, it doesn't seem like there is anything like a 5 foot minimum travel. Obviously, it's not something one would encounter with a normal sectional or one-piece door, but does anyone know?
