Liftmaster warranty purchase from Amazon...

Hoping to get some quick clarification - if ordering a Liftmaster Garage Opener from Amazon (and really any Liftmaster product) is the Product Warranty not valid?

Was just on the phone with Liftmaster support with a Gateway 828LM that was DOA from Amazon. Support said to return it Amazon and had a few smirky comments about quality of products purchased from Amazon since who knows where they're coming from and whether or not they've been repackaged and returned previously.

Have an 8500 on order from Amazon and am concerned about a valid warranty on the product based on the comments from support.

Anyone else have any warranty issues/concerns from Liftmaster Garage Openers purchased on Amazon?

Thanks!

Doesn’t your order have a return ability on the right side? All amazon purchases to my knowledge have thirty day return policy before the manufacturer warrantee is used.

Warranty should not be a problem. I had a wall controller failure last month and Liftmaster sent me a free replacement 2 years after Amazon purchase. No questions asked or proof of purchase needed.

I have found over the years that many companies, not all but many, will not require proof of warranty for SMALL cost items. They find it is less expensive to warranty a small inexpensive part than to screw around with the customer and have them return the bad part along with proof of purchase and all that. On the other hand, if we are talking about an expensive part, different story.

The most important part of buying from Amazon is who the seller is. When it is through a reseller it can be more of a warranty issue.

I purchased mine thru eBay and had a warranty replacement of the controller, worked right with Liftmaster with no issues. I registered the unit with Liftmaster the day it arrived before I even started install.

I wouldn't be surprised if Liftmaster only warranted when the sale was made through a legit dealer.

A few years ago, I was considering a set of Amp Power Steps for the Excursion. At that time, the company did not warranty the product unless it was bought through a recognized dealer. Some sellers on-line actually mentioned that they were a authorized dealer...others did not.

I suppose it makes sense to protect your dealers, and this may be a way that some companies do so. I suppose a return on a DOA product is easier...but a warranty claim made later?

With Amazon, there are so many people selling things, that you really don't know who might be an authorized dealer.

I get what you are saying and I tend to agree with you, manufacturers do like to "protect" their dealers. But I have a problem with the idea of a large successful company taking the chance of upsetting a customer because they won't warranty a part that costs a couple dollars. Happy customers don't "badmouth" your company while unhappy customers tell their friends.

I bought 2 8500 units from seller "365 Garage Door Parts" through Amazon and had an issue with one of them. No issues with warranty/customer support. During troubleshooting the sent me a new encoder board, a new motor, and after those two didn't work, a whole new opener.

Matt M knows of what he speaks. Had a service issue with my local dealer/installer and they only honor the warranty for the first year(?). They lost a long-time customer over that nonsense so I bought another one from local dealer #2 who did a great job. They only warranty what LM products they sell but for the life of the warranty.

Liftmaster will always honor the warranty but you have to do the footwork, wait for the part(s) to show up and put them in yourself. Like everyone is an 8500 expert and doesn't mind having their garage door open for a week.
