Lifts at auction today.

I went to a foreclosure auction today where 5 Challenger model 31000 lifts were acutioned off.If I recall correctly,4 of them were 8000 lb. capacity & the 5th was 7000 lb. The higher capacity ones brought an amazing to me $1750 each & the other went for $1500. There was also a 10% buyers fee. I'd hoped to pick one up for $500-$700. My banker friend ,whose banked had foreclosed the business, had told me he hoped they'd bring aroune $550 each. After the acution he hold me that he had planned on not selling them if they brought less than $400 ea. I guess the realised prices made his day. Other stuff went for crazy high prices too. Some days you're the windshield,some days you're the bug.

I agree. I have picked up some deals at auction but when you factor in your time the gain is minimal.

Those prices sound about right. My brother just picked up a 9000# Rotary at Auction for $1500, which was the cheapest of the 9 lifts sold that day (it was also the oldest). This was a car dealership that had moved to a new facility in Columbia Mo.

You guys make us auctioneers look great when prices are high like that. I have always said that you can't fix stupid and we certainly get stupid prices out of many of the things we sell. I have literally sold things (hundreds of times) for way more money at auction than what you could go buy them for at the store.

I always tell potential clients that the bidders get caught up in the moment and it's like a shark's feeding frenzy.

While I have had my fair share of auction flops, I have also had some real bell ringers including one 2 months ago that I am still living off of.

Two words, weekend auction, it brings out the end users instead of the brokers. A waste of time as far as I am concerned. What can be sweet is a big group of resellers when none of them want what you want. Its the reason I started buying old Mac computers, 30 guys bidding hot on the phone and office equipment, a dozen after all the PCs, and nobody wanted the Macs.

I can make you a sweet deal on about 200 of them...LCs, Quadras, Centris, Performa, etc.

Yep auctions can be weird... I've seen used tools sell for not much less than new...

But once in awhile, you'll get a screaming deal: like my g/f's parents who go to auctions all the time and picked up a like new Jet 14" enclosed-base bandsaw for $30 last Summer.

The key is to go to a lot of auctions and not be worried about leaving w/o buying anything.

I can make you a sweet deal on about 200 of them...LCs, Quadras, Centris, Performa, etc.

Oh no ya don't, let ME make YOU a deal on about 200 of them.... just take over payments on storage.

I do have space for a few more though, maybe an Apple one, base Apple II (not II+ or e, II), and maybe a couple Mac 128k that don't say 128k on the case.

All the stuff in the middle I am scrapping out, checking for memory, expansion cards etc., but mostly scrapping for weight.
