Bought some recessed lights (see pictures) to install in strategic places where clearance important. I plan to use them inside drywall (as designed).
To those who know:

1. See distance (red line) from flange to clip all way in. It's about 1 3/4 and drywall is 5/8. How is that going to work?
2. Can I use those in garage with insulation around?

Question about joint box. That simple plastic box with 8 holes (2 on each side). How many 14/2 wires I can safely join there? My plan shows that I need 8 but I guess it's too much. If I brake it into 2 boxes it's going to be 5 in each. Is 5 ok or too much?

I am very interested in this, as I am going to do the same thing. Please tell us how you are framing them in.

How much did you pay?

Are you sure that these don't require opening the ceiling up and installing framing to attach them to?

Mark,

Paid $49 - 10% coupon. Kind of pricy but it is what it is. I need 3 of them.

How to frame for them? I don't know. There is no instructions at all, just wiring instructions so I thought you guys may know. I thought it's post-factum install by cutting drywall but maybe not.

Now that you said that maybe I will need to frame for them which is OK since I didn't drywall yet.

It looks like those adjustable dog legs are meant to press against a two by four framework around the light.. I have never used them though. Just what it looks like to me..

You should check out the thread here where this guy put like 30 of these "troffers" in. He did a nice job framing it up all the way around. Those clips make me wonder? Does that light weigh too much to be supported just by sheetrock?

IMO, you can frame it in without tearing up the ceiling. You would cut your hole very carefully and then install 2X probably toe nailing or toe screwing.

In my case it's not a problem regardless. I don't have drywall yet. But it makes sense now..

Don't know about 30 of them :) My garage budget already.. Hmm..

Its a Frame in Fixture. You frame out the box and do your drywall and then put your flex/MC to it and then throw it up in and screw the screws and the clamps swing out and grab the framing of the box you framed in. and then its recessed in the ceiling.

Your going to want only the 3 wires to go into that fixture. Hot/switchleg, neutral, and ground. anything else Id pig tail up in a jbox up above. Make life simple :)
