I have a light fixture in the middle of a stairwell that needs to be replaced. Before I build a home made scaffold to support a step ladder/stool & risk my life I thought I'd ask if anyone here has a good simple method for getting up there...

Solved! A Little Giant ladder costs a little more than $200 at Home Depot, & doesn't seem particularly stable on the stairs or reach as high as needed. The home made scaffold cost a total of $27.50 in materials, & now resides in my attic if I ever need to do this again (HOPE NOT!)

Sorry about the sideways pictures.......:dunno:

I have found that an 'aluminum plank' that Home Depot or Lowes sells can be extremely handy for thing like this. It extends from 8' to 13'

A regular extension ladder at one end and a saw horse at the other would have done the trick. Also, the plank comes in handy when painting walls (tall ceilings) installing crown molding, etc

Yep, an aluminum plank is good & solid, & comes in handy for a number of chores. However, at $133 to $300 my $27.50 solution seemed the better option. I also didn't have to build something to hang it on, or worry about gouges in a finished stair.

For about $100 to $150 I could have had an electrician replace the fixture for me..........Gouges optional........

I did the same thing to reach the fixture in our house. And then to paint the stairwell. And again a third time, when I said "the hell with this" and replaced the ceiling mount fixture with a hanging one that I could reach without any ladder or platform.

Really cool hand rails. can we get some close ups of that?

Thank you. That's also kind of home spun. I wanted it when having the house built but the builder claimed he couldn't find the materials. After I got rid of him I found the stainless on the internet, & a vendor just across the state. Did the changes myself.
