Hi all,
I've been following the Best Light Fixture thread, but I can't locate any of the suggested fixtures or bulbs in Canada. Bees does not ship to Canada I already called them.
That being said - does anyone know where to get some decent 4' T8 fixtures and LED bulbs to go with them? Or am I stuck going to Home Depot and paying ~$65 for a fixture (https://www.homedepot.ca/en/home/p.48-in-t8-double-strip-light.1000149664.html) and then another $12 for a Philips direct replacement 17W LED bulb?

Thanks,
Chris

I wish I could tell you, Chris. I've kept an eye out and occasionally TSC will have a sale, but the fixtures looked pretty junky.

I have 8 light sockets in my shop which I recently installed 100 W LED bulbs (replacing CFLs). I'm pretty happy with them for now.

Where abouts in canada are you. Are you close enough to the USA border that you could have them shipped to usa and go pick them up? I use a ups store in detroit to have things shipped to and I go pick it up. It's $5 a box or $30 a skid.

I just picked up a dozen 4' T8 fixtures on kijiji recently for a great price. I'm glad most people only look for new stuff.

I ended up going to a local electrical supply house. Better quality for lower price than the big box stores. Just got to deal with the counter guys who roll their eyes when dealing with an amateur.

How many do you need? I did the math on T8's, T8's with LED bulbs and the 4ft LED shop lights available at Princess Auto. Once I worked out my chosen lumens, I determined that I would need 18 of the Princess Auto 4ft LED's, or 26 T8 fixtures. It worked out to being about $1000 more to purchase the Princess Auto Lights.

I then worked out wattage and power consumption. Assuming my shop lights are on for an average of 6hrs per day, 6 days a week, the power savings alone will pay off the lights in 13 months, after that I'm 'saving money' in reduced power use over standard T8's.

The T8's with LED bulbs saved money on the install end, but not enough on the power consumption end to make it worthwhile.

The Princess Auto lights are $74.99 regular price. Dad bought some on sale last year for $50ea, armed with that I called head office. They directed me to the local store manager, as any 'deals' are made at the store level. I was able to negotiate the price down to $62.99 per light. It was still a very hefty "buy in" price to install them, but if I use them to the average I expect, they'll start paying for themselves in 11 months.

It's worth it to do the math.

For the record, the Princess Auto lights are so bright, that in my main shop where I was expecting to need 14 lights, I'm currently using only 6 and quite happy. I will need to bump the number up to 10 in the main shop to have the "surface of the sun" total brightness I want...but once I do the main and small shop, I anticipate having 6 lights to return to Princess Auto unused. This will further shrink my investment and time to recoup in power savings.

Lights I used: Princess Auto 4ft Garage Shop Light

I went to electrical supply house as the usual suspects did not carry any T5 fixtures. $368 to illuminate my 24x32 garage. T8 was most updated fixture at Home Hardware. Also at supply house they likely have some of what you are after wired up. I was directed away from their high leds,,saleman was very helpful. Home Depot had one overpriced LED unit in stock.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I did have some luck with finding a retailer that will ship to Canada - LED Lighting Wholesale Inc.

They carry the recommended 18W James Industry T8 LEDs mentioned in the Best Light Fixture Ever thread.
I'm likely grabbing these fixtures (http://www.ledlightingwholesaleinc.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=LSS2XT8USE4803&CartID=1), and there is an option to include lamps which are these (http://www.ledlightingwholesaleinc....-18-Watt-Universal-C-p/zy-t8-18w1200-bixx.htm).
For an order of 20 fixtures with lamps shipping was quoted at $144, so the total delivered price per fixture is $37.73 USD.

I'm not close enough to make that work, thanks for the suggestion though.

I have been scouring Kijiji and haven't had any luck.

Good idea, I'll give that a shot just in case they can beat the online price I have.

Yes Eecol or anixter or westburne maybe, not sure where you are but here in Sask there are rumours that starting in January the utility rebates will be back in effect that will drop the LEDs a third of the price
I'm hoping as I'm also wanting to pick up a few
If you give them the layout they will also do a study and recommendation
