I was looking for a light to light up the dial on my safe so i can see the numbers better. Old age vision ***** more and more every year. i saw this one from Canon for $20, but it only had red light. http://www.cannonsafe.com/options-accessories/securitylight.html

The red light is only good in complete darkness. I was looking to get one that i could still see in the daytime. I found a good solution, a $5 headband LED light from Harbor Freight.

It has a magnet on the back. You just throw away the strap, and let the magnet stick it to your safe door above the dial. It gives plenty of light, and the magnet works great.

You know-that is a great idea. I'm going top put an LED on my safe and also a pair of spectacles near it. When the power is out and you need access....well, again-great idea. Thanks

My father-in-law had the same problem with his safe.

I painted the dial flat black and applied some Mopar Hemi Orange to the numbers and notches on the dial for added distinction between the two.

Sorta like highlighting the timing marks on your car. He was so happy.

Interesting idea. I might use it for the inside of the safe. I don't care about lighting the dial, I'll just walk across the room and turn the light on. The inside of the safe can stay fairly dark, though.

forget that for the inside of your safe, use rope lights instead. I cut the end off an extension cord and fed it through the mounting bolt hole in the back of the safe. Then just put a switch inline on the wire. I just strung it around the inside of the door opening, it makes alot of light in that dark space. i did that and it is great. every nook and cranny is lit up now.

I was looking at safes a few years ago and saw one with a mirror on the back wall and rope lights that actuated with the door. The rope lights weren't that bright but with the mirror reflecting the light back really made it easy to see what was in the safe. COuldn't afford such luxeries and ended up with a plain safe but still plan on adding a mirror in back.
