One thing that is important for anything but a work space is to try and conceal the source of the light. IOW, when you walk into a room the first thing you see isn't a light. That's why they invented lamp shades. So can lights do an effective job of task and ambient lighting w/o being in your face. Place some close to any wall where you might display things or hang pictures. You can use eyeball lamps in the perimeter fixtures to direct lighting. If you have an actual bar, place a row above. You can use pendant lighting there too, but that's a bit fancy dancey for me.
Somehow, I think track lighting is going to make a come back. It's so easy to reconfigure.
