I have a 2004 Crown Vic .

In 2005+ they made passenger air bag shutoff standard. the trim has a little light in it that says "Passenger Air Bag off" that lights on startup and goes away if someone isnt sitting in the seat.

I replaced my drilled up 2004 trim with clean 2005 trim

I think it would be kind of cool to make it so the air bag indicator lights up and shuts off like it would in a 2005. (I understand that this doesn't actually make the air bag turn on and off, it's purely for show :) )

Can anyone point me to a schematic to take +5v and make an LED turn on for a few seconds and then shutoff?

I would tap a key on power source (radio most likely)

I was thinking 555 timer, but the only schematics i can find are to make a flasher.

Thanks for any help!

OK, contest: who can do it with the fewest parts.

Me: one LED, one capacitor, and... Oh, wait, I can do it with two parts, as long as you don't mind the LED fading to darkness.

A 5V LED (with built-in resistor) and a capacitor.

You should use a discharge resistor as well, though, or the LED will only light up the first time, then not light up again until the cap is discharged, which might take a while.
