Light orientation

I’m wanting to upgrade the lighting in my old timber frame barn. This will be under one of the two hay lofts which will be used for parking the mower and some smaller equipment, as well as an alternate workshop.

Due to the low ceiling height and how close tractor exhausts are to the joists, the lights cannot be mounted to the bottom of the joists. They must be ran parallel to the joists and mounted to the hay mow floor above/between.

I’m wanting vapor tight mostly due to dust and was thinking of getting six of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01ENWKOZQ/ref=ox_sc_act_image_2?smid=A1VCN0ZD746TM9&psc=1

I can lay these out one of two ways (blue vs red ink), in 3 pairs of two or 6 spread evenly. I’m thinking the light output will be wider than it is long and therefore am leading towards the red layout. What would be your recommendation? TYIA

None of the above. Try the Visual tool here: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=6721429&highlight=visual#post6721429

Lumen output of default fixture is higher than your wrap, but it generates better layouts. Just reduce the "Illuminance Criteria fc" number to reduce fixture quantity.
90-100fc = excellent
80-89fc = very good
70-79fc = good
60-69fc = workable
50-59fc = fair
40-49fc = not great for shop work

Using the Visual tool and 70fc - looks like you need no less than 8 fixtures. 2x4 pattern.

Thanks for the feedback platonic. I think 8 will be better. Counting the openings between joists, 8 will make it more even anyways..,
