The past few nights I have been sorting out the electrical... Adding plugs, adding lights, removing unwanted circuits etc.
One of the last things I had to do was hardwire a plug for the door opener.
The closest box was the original 1 circuit that was in the garage before I added a subpanel. So I tested for voltage shut off the circuit and hooked everything up. Next day the wife tells me her remote wasn't working so when I put her truck in last night I switched hers with mine since I used it and it worked.
Today I got a call at work...
" hey why do I have to have the lights on in the garage to open or close the
door? "

Whatever you do, tell her it was on purpose, as a 'security measure' and not that you screwed up!

THIS!! tell her to get out of the car (after it is out of the garage) shut off the switch and run like heck. Make sure she jumps over the sensors so the door doesn't reverse.
Course, getting back in is a little bit trickier.

We have 3 kids they can take turns jumping out :3gears:
I just needs a "plan b" when they're at school.

Amen on the 'security measure' story.
In the end it may be a good idea to leave it that way and use a new switch for the lights.
Then you can easily kill the power to the opener when you go on vacation.
