Bic lighter for 99 cents, lasts for years, works first time every time, just don't set the place on fire.

I have a Portosaw MT220. Works great with heat shrink and soldering those big terminal ends on 00 cable. Nice adjustable flame

Looking for a lighter or small torch for heat shrink tubing and general purpouse burning of stuff.

I know a heat gun is better than a torch for shrink tube, but I dont always have electricity available and a MAPP torch is overkill.

I saw these Zippo MPL lighter before and am thinking about getting one but would like to know if theres something better available.

My favorite lighter now is a plasma lighter. Unlike other lighters such as butane lighters, it is an oil-free lighter and flameless. In terms of wind and water resistance, I think it is the most advantageous. It relies on an electric arc to ignite a cigarette, and it is not as good as a jet lighter in terms of firepower, which must be acknowledged.

Hopefully the OP found one within the almost ten years that passed. The poster that bumped this has only three posts and all three are bumping really old threads. Advanced spam bot perhaps?

Probably just trying to contribute and get his post count up. Nothing wrong with bumping old posts.

I had one of those and it was complete trash. Broke after like 2-3 weeks.

Master Appliance has a bunch of butane torches and soldering irons that they rebrand and sell in the USA.
I’m not sure were the torches are manufactured, but the butane soldering irons are made in Japan, by a company that seems to only manufacture butane soldering irons, torches, glue guns etc.
The soldering irons are available with hot air tips for heat shrink tubing, and you can get reflectors for heat shrinking tubing to make the tips more effective.
The model I have has three different hot air tips available for it, and two sizes of reflector.
The units are available in piezo ignition, or non-piezo versions.(the piezo systems serm to be the first things that break in butane torches)
One of the torch models is rebranded by Weller, and others are rebranded by ‘Engineer’ in Jaoan.

The only major downsize is the torches cost $100 give or take.
Master Appliance also sells a number of non soldering iron butane torches that are way less expensive.

Don't ask.

Anyone tried one of the powerful LED flashlights? Seems like they would be perfect for heat shrink.
