for all of you folks out there that have the eternal question "how much lighting do i need?". i have looked at all the threads addressing this question and, here is my answer...for now. i just completed a 22 x 27 addition to my existing garage with 13' ceilings. i had designed it with 9 ceiling boxes - 3 rows of three. the outer are three feet from the walls, center row just that, centered. to pass the final electrical inspection i had the electricians put the $1 ceramic (now plastic) fixtures in and while at costco i picked up a 10 pack of 13w/60 equal CFL's as a temporary measure to get the inspection passed and then shop and install some 4' fixtures w/T8's. well, that plan has changed for now. this "set up" gives me VERY acceptable/even bright light coverage (900 lum x 9 = 8,100 total lums). i was totally amazed by the amount of light generated and don't see the need to put 4' fixtures in at this point. i am, however, going back to costco and get some what i believe are 15w/75 equivalent "daylight" CFL bulbs and try them for a little more "bling". at this point i have $20 in lighting for this garage addition :shocking:. this is the cost winner for this $70,000 project. :) we are professional grade...don't try this at home kids.

Lighting is one of those things that everyone has their own ideas on. I'm glad that you are satisfied with what you have. For me, I doubt it would be adequate.

When I'm working on a truck or car, or any project really, I want it bright and evenly lit. I hate shadows and drop lights are a real pain. Give me a HO fluorescent tube over a CFL any day, especially when it's cold and the CFL's are dim.

Besides, it looks more like a garage with fluorescent tubes. Then again, I like the looks of conduit too:thumbup:

Enjoy the new garage!
