I am wiring my 30' x 40' shop. The sidewalls are 14 ft. high. Any recommendations on what kind of lights I should put in? I really don't have any ideas. Is there like some kind of online lighting planner where you enter your dimensions and it tells you how far apart to space your light fixtures? I will be doing machine work in here. The ceiling will be white metal. Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks

I have lowered my ceilings down to 11' and use strip lights. They are 8' long with 4 T8 bulbs, so far I am extremely happy with them.

So guys prefer to put lights where they need them based on what they are doing in the garage while others put in rows of lights.

If you are working on cars in your shop, mkae sure you have plenty of light on all sides of the car. Also take into consideration your garage doors, do you work with the doors up ? They will block light when they are up, you may want to keep that in mind, it's easily forgotten.

No. The HO lights just put out more light per bulb so if you do the math you will find that it is cheaper to use more lights than to use the HO fixtures.
