lighting layout suggestions

I am figuring out where exactly to put my 8' T8 lights in my 24'x36' garage. I am thinking about doing something like this setup (see pics) -
I have a reverse setup like these pics, with the high lift bay on the right side.

I was thinking about running the lights flush on the (8 ft.) ceiling every 5 feet or so down the center of the bay (these would be directly over the car sitting in the bay) - then a couple perpendicular to these along the side of the bay so I won't have shadows on the sides of the car -

I think I am also going to put 4 ft. double T8 fixtures along the wall directly over my workbench.

Is this overkill?

Looks good. I used to do lighting layouts and plan them for the amount of lumens for the task, but in the end you still had to arrange them so they fit and didn't look weird.

I am going to end up doing my garage, 20x20, 5 from the wall, with a 10' gap. I would rather do it like yours, but I got the garage door opener in the way.

One thing you could do is use multiple switches. either light one half or the other up or every other row.

I am setting mine up to have one incandescent light, on a 3way between the doors, for running in and out.

good ideas - I can incorporate both -

I had not thought about multiple switches - and a three-way switch would be good with one light right between the doors.

I wanted atleast one incandescent light, for the quick on off, especially when cold. Not to mention incandescent are cheap.

Maybe you should look into Vu1 Corp.'s ESL bulbs meant for recessed lights. They are a mercurcy free CFL. Since they use a different gas they are instant on, same light quality as a incandescent, insane life, and lower power consumption. Downside is that they are about $20 each. Not many people have heard of them yet, but I've heard nothing but great reviews (I would buy them to try but I don't have any recessed lights).

Thats why I said I like cheap incandescents. They also make different types of FL. But I found one incandescent on a 3 way switch, for quick on and offs worked good, for me.
