Building a 40 x 44 detached garage with 10' ceiling all white walls & ceiling. Confused as to how many lights I need!
Using 8' LED 5000K 12600 lumens. Thinking 5' off wall then 10' between for a total of 4 lines of 3 qty 8'. Or maybe 4 qty? Is that too many?
9' & 18' garage doors on 40' side
Thanks for the help

How well do you want this lit? Generally if this is a "working garage" the recommendation is about 93 fc.

15 of the 12,600 lm LED strips will give you about that illuminance. A quick guesttimation with a similar fixture in the Visual 3D tool recommended five columns of three lights, 4.4' off of the walls, 8.8' between columns. The lights in each column are 8.8' on center from the wall and 13.3' center to center between the fixtures in the column. You will have to adjust to make sure you clear the garage door openers, hit studs, etc.

Garage will be used as a car garage. I think I'm a dumb cuz I don't understand ur message. I see the the bank of 8' lights (3 qty each) @ 8'-8" on center. & 1/2 space to walls ... but what is the 13'-3" center to center between fixtures in the column?
What would be the distance between the lights the other way?

If you are looking at the garage from the long direction (the 44' side), there are five columns of lights going from left to right. There are 3 lights in each column. The distance from the inside of this wall to the near edge of the first fixture in each column is 4' 9" (8.8 feet minus the 4' from the center of the 8' long fixture to the end.) Once you have hung this fixture, measure 5' 4' from the far edge of this fixture, this is where the second fixture starts. Repeat between the second and third fixtures. Then for fun, measure from the far edge of the third fixture, it should be 4' 9" to the wall.

The lighting design programs always reference the center of the fixture. A strip is narrow, so the column (width) spacing is just about what they say. But along the length of the strip, the center is 4' in from the ends for an 8' strip. The easiest way is to measure a distance to an end of a fixture (as I said above) and line that up. That's how I spaced 8' strips in my building, 2' from wall to the beginning of the first fixture and 18" between fixtures in each column (for me, along the truss.)
