I am kinda new here (been reading for awhile) and decided to signup and get some opinions on my new garage project.

My gift to myself for the new year is to redo my garage which I use to restore and modify motorcycles and I am getting ready to start a 69 Camaro project as well, so I figure now is a good time between projects to get it fixed up.

Here is what I am doing.. Garage is roughly 26.3' x 20.6'.

- Epoxy Flooring
- Two tone painted walls.
- More air lines..
- Three new dedicated circuits (2 - 110, 1 - 220)
- New lighting broken up on four circuits.

I have already got the garage emptied and am gonna start this weekend on the electrical and color testing.

So I would like to get some opinions on the lighting. Here is what I am planning to do.

8 - 4 Bulb T8 Fixture
3 - 2 Bulb T8 Fixture

All bulbs will be 4100K and operate as follows.

Switch 1 (inside house "existing") - Lamps 2 & 4
Switch 2 (in garage) - Lamps 1, 5 & 6
Switch 3 (in garage) - Lamps 4, 7 & 8
Switch 4 (in garage) - Lamps 9, 10 & 11

Here are some pics to help illustrate the setup as well as the projected FC.

Any thoughts or feedback would be much appreciated.

Sounds like a good plan.

I have a 22' x 22' with 4 switches for lights. Majority of the time I find myself flipping all but one switch. The last switch is for a fixture above the door and is off when garage door is open, otherwise all 8 two bulb fixtures are on.

Multiple switches are nice, but often wonder if it was worth all the extra effort.

I'd love to hear more about these motorcycles..

Matt,

Thanks for the feedback. I was (and still am) considering adding another two bulb fixture about the garage doors as well. They might end up there, we will see.

On the bikes, I would happy to share..

Just sold this in Feb. 1976 KZ900

+1.

I have my garage lights on 3 switches. Thought it was a good idea, but all I really do is use either one for getting stuff from the cars, or flip on all 3 if I'm working in there. I hate working in a space with lots of shadows or big contrasts (like half the garage is dark and the other half is really bright).

one idea which you may like is install a motion light on the ceiling just buy a regular outdoor motion sector and aim it so when you come in the garage for something quick you dont have to turn on and off all the lights.

Exactly. I only flip on one fixture when BBQing or hanging out outside of the garage.

I am sure I will do the same thing and switch them all on most of the time. The one switch in the house (that already exists) is for running out quickly and for the wife, lol. The three fixtures up will be angled in to give me more light under the hood. We will see how that works out, it seems like a good idea.. lol

Tell me more about the camaro build. Based off what you did to the MC above, it will be a bit more modern?

You are correct, a modernized classic. Full Pro Street affect. Mini Tub, Air Ride, functional rear brake vent (where the fake ones are), solid three piece wing, matching front air dam. I am attempting a custom sheet metal dash and center console in the new few weeks. Drive line is 6.0L LSX TT setup, T56 and narrowed moser 12", sporting 285's in the front and 335's in the rear.

I thought of this myself today, While flipping the lights on in my garage. I said to myself that I need to upgrade to this century. The lights take awhile to warm up, and I hear that the t-12 bulbs are going away.
I planned this out a few months ago and need to put the plan into action. Good lUck also with your project OP.
