Hi--newbie here.

While I'm new to GJ, I'm active on other forums so I know the general drill.

I've tried to do as much self-service with the search function and find an answer to my question, but I just can't find it--hopefully I didn't miss anything obvious.

I've just moved to my first single family home and the garage was woefully underlighted. I've seen the lighting planning posts (very helpful, BTW), gotten the place wired up and I'm ready to pull the trigger on the lights themselves. I cannot seem to find many choices of actual fixtures that meet my needs and I'm hoping for some direction.

I'm looking for hardwire 4 bulb T8 fixtures that are low profile and designed to be affixed directly to the ceiling--as I've got 8 foot ceilings. I'd also like to get a wire guard to protect the bulbs from errant tools, equipment, etc.

The only one that I seemed to have found that fits the bill is linked below--and they are $90 a pop, so I'm hoping that there's something out there that's a bit cheaper. I've checked the big box sites, 1000bulbs, etc.

Am I just looking for something that's not readily produced or are there other places to look?

Any recommendations would be extremely helpful. Here's a pic of the garage so far--so much yet to do...

Thanks!

e-conolight is a bargain basement supplier, as the name suggests. You can try looking through the Lithonia website to see if you can find a fixture you like: http://www.lithonia.com/product/default.aspx?pt=Commercial+%26+Industrial+Fluorescent but you'll have to buy them from a local lighting store (Home Depot does usually carry one or two basic Lithonia fixtures, but nothing fancy.) You could also try Cooper Metalux: http://www.cooperindustries.com/content/public/en/lighting/brands/metalux.html

There are a number of other light fixture manufacturers, these are just two of the better ones.

95% of the fixtures out there are the flimsiest junk ever, stamped out of the thinnest sheet metal that can be formed. We just installed several hundred Lithonia industrial T8 fixtures, the metal is so weak they come pre-sagged out of the box, look at them the wrong way and they will twist into a pretzel all by themselves! It won't really matter where you get them, wholesaler or big box store, they peddle the same ****,all you can do is make sure they have a brand name ballast in them,GE,Phillips or Sylvania-stay away from any others.
