Lighting upgrade to shop. Help with placement and fixture selection.

I recently added a mezzanine of sorts to my shop and am planing some additional upgrades. In the meantime, my 8' florescents are starting to flicker and turn off randomly. I have no interest in replacing the ballast or bulbs and would like to upgrade to LED.

I have looked through the garage lighting layout sticky and cannot find a layout similar to mine. I am not hunting for a modeling from Platonic Solid but that would be welcome.

The dimensions can be seen in the attached picture.

- Floor to ceiling height: 136"
- Floor to mezzanine: 91"
- Mezzanine dimensions: 168" long x 48" deep

As you can see, the work areas are pretty well defined and I don't imagine it would be changing too much. I would really like "good light" everywhere, regardless of what task is taking place there.

I plan to install lights below the mezzanine as well. Are the bulbs & fixtures listed in the "best fixture ever" thread still a decent option? Will they work for my ceiling height?

Ok, I have found a layout that I think will adapt well to my floorplan. Now I'm undecided on whether to use 12ea. 1x4 LED troffers with surface mount kit or the strips listed in the best fixture thread.

I've read that edge-lit troffers offer a better effect over strips. Can this be confirmed?

What about the effectiveness of these troffers below my mezzanine, 91" from floor to their mounting location? I plan on mounting two additional fixtures here in addition to the proposed 12 on the actual ceiling.

Can I reduce the number of fixtures by going to 2x4 troffers?
