Randomly tonight while doing laundry I noticed a lamp flickered. then i noticed it with the kitchen light... so i cut off the drier thinking okay maybe they share a circuit with something AC related, i'll check it tomorrow.

So after the AC shuts off i crank up the drier again, go upstairs and notice the lights flicker while upstairs. then i realize the AC kicked back on so kill the drier, no more flickering.

The only commonality between them all is the main breaker and the house is a 1980.

...and now... while typing this i just noticed the AC shut off and kick back on.

ideas?

lotta questions here.

Is the dryer 120v/gas or 120/240v?

what size service do you have?

what is the size on the AC?

Is it a constant flicker or intermittent?

All lights or only certain lights?

what type of lights? incandescent, fluorescent or LED?

I have had LED lights flicker when a modern clothes washer with inverter motor is on. These motors change direction - slow down, stop, speed up in other direction, slow down, etc.

I have also had LED lights flicker when bath fans run.

I have this as well, kitchen fixture was the most noticable.

Had some lights that didn't flicker, changed the fixtures out a few weeks ago and put different LED in them and now those flicker.

Yes, cheaply built LED lights will flicker with random loads applied - even when those loads are on different branches.
Also,.. check to make sure the bulbs are fully seated/screwed down. Over time small vibrations can lead to bulbs backing themselves out.

While I agree with above posters it is most likely an issue with LED drivers I'd check the main panel and any sub panels for loose connections and any sign of overheated wiring. If you are not experienced and confident poking around in a panel hire an electrician.

it was the grid in my neighborhood. so i spent like 2 hours and found nothing wrong. windy day, lots of pollen lately, idunno.
I realized this wasn't AC or drier circuit related when my sleep fan (the one by my bed) started to act like the power is going out. it just kind of started to slow down to a crawl but never quite shut off.

so like NOTHING was on in the house except for this. hopped on centerpoint's website and i see random reports near my neighborhood.

stopped happening around 1am this morning and they said they fixed something in the area.

thanks guys!
