I’m in the process of having a 26 x 30 garage built and need to start thinking about how I’m going to light it. The walls and ceiling will be finished and painted white, the floor to ceiling height is 9 foot. I plan to use the garage for car projects and some basic wood working projects. I found this article by doing a search here.

If I have done the math right it recommends 55 4’ bulbs. Seems pretty over kill for 780 square feet. So what do you guys recommend? How many? And does it make much difference which direction the fixtures run?

Sounds about right to me.
I have 17 fixtures, each with 4x4ft 32w T8 tubes, for a total of 68 in my 24x40 (960 sq/ft) shop.
